healing method: traditonal aka dry healing (soaker pad bandage, no saniderm)

Leave the bandage on for at least 4 hours, or overnight. Once removed, wash the tattoo with warm water a fragrance-free, oil-free soap, removing all tattoo residue. Keep in mind that a shower might be best for this, especially to access areas like the back and ribs. Pat dry and allow the area to air dry for a few minutes before moisturizing the tattoo. Do not re-bandage.

Apply a very thin layer of aquaphor 1-2 times daily for the first 3 days. It should be enough ointment to keep the tattoo hydrated but should not leave a greasy finish. After 3 days, replace the aquaphor with a gentle, fragrance-free and oil-free lotion.

Exercise is okay as long as you clean the tattoo immediately after working out.

healing method: second skin bandage (saniderm/tegaderm/derm shield)

Once the tattoo is bandaged , leave it on for 3-5 days as long as there is no plasma/blood/excess ink leaking out of the bandage. It is perfectly normal for fluid to build up inside the bandage, this will dry up by the third day.

*If the bandage does leak and you are not at home: wash hands with soap and water. push excess fluid out of the bandage and leave it alone until you are able to get home and remove it. Do not remove the bandage in a public restroom.

When the bandage is ready to be removed, get into the shower with warm water. Gently start to remove the bandage from the top, allowing water to run under the bandage against the skin, to help with removal. Peel slowly so as to not hurt the tattoo— it may take several minutes. Once the bandage is off, wash the area with antibacterial soap and warm water.

After getting out of the shower, pat your tattoo dry with a clean paper towel. Do not use a bath towel to dry your tattoo. Moisturize with a gentle lotion, no fragrances or oils please.

Until two weeks have passed since getting tattooed:

Some scabbing and flaking is normal while a tattoo is healing. Do not pick or scratch, allow for scabs to come off at their own pace.

Do not soak your tattoo: no baths, swimming, jacuzzi, etc.

Keep your tattoo protected from the sun with light clothing while it’s healing.

Long term care for your tattoo

Wear sunscreen!!! Prolonged exposure to UV rays fades tattoos.

also please send cute photos of your healed (3+ weeks) tattoos to your artist (well lit, moisturized, and in focus please!!), we appreciate it very much!!
